Beata Makowska – music and musical band leader

Makowska Beata Beata Makowska

A graduate of the Music Academy in Gdańsk (Prof. Krystyna Jurecka’s violin class). Involved with the Dance and Song Ensemble Jantar as a music director since 1990.

Under her leadership, the Dance and Song Ensemble ‘Jantar’ received the following awards and distinctions:

  • 3rd place at an international festival in Great Britain in 2001
  • gold medal for the best music at an international festival in Turkey in 2003
  • 3rd place at the Polish Christmas Carols Festival in Będzin in 2005
  • 2nd place at an international Festival in Germany in 2005
  • positive appraisal by the Artistic Committee and becoming a member of the Polish National Section of CIOFF (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts) in 2006

On the 35th anniversary of the group’s establishment in 2005, as one of the instructors, she was awarded the Medal of the University of Gdańsk accompanied by a congratulatory letter by His Magnificence Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Professor Andrzej Ceynowa, for her outstanding achievements as a member of the Song and Dance Ensemble “Jantar” in the development of student culture and cultivation of folk dance traditions. She was presented this award also for the 2nd place taken in the international “Harmonie Festival” in Lindenholzhausen, Germany.

She is an author of the group’s Christmas carols programme, which has been included in the repertoire since 1991. The music arranged and prepared by Ms Makowska for the Ensemble was released as a cassette and three CDs.
